How to Make Glazed Buttermilk Beignet Square
  1. In a large bowl, whisk the warm buttermilk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–8 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the egg and melted butter, stirring until combined. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1½ hours until doubled.
  5. Punch down the dough, roll it to ½-inch thickness, and cut into squares.
  6. Heat oil to 340–350°F. Fry beignet squares for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. In a bowl, whisk the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  8. Dip the warm beignets in the glaze and let them set for 5–10 minutes.
