How to Make Glazed Buttermilk Beignet Square
- In a large bowl, whisk the warm buttermilk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–8 minutes until foamy.
- Add the egg and melted butter, stirring until combined. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1½ hours until doubled.
- Punch down the dough, roll it to ½-inch thickness, and cut into squares.
- Heat oil to 340–350°F. Fry beignet squares for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- In a bowl, whisk the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
- Dip the warm beignets in the glaze and let them set for 5–10 minutes.
